Preston established the Mutinda Wildlife Center  with funding from the Troy Rotary Club of Ohio. Guests are invited to visit the Center which is located in Preston's home village of Kangunda, 70km east of Nairobi and home to the Kamba tribe (one of 42 tribes in Kenya).  The center helps provide educational programs for school children and their families.  These programs educate the community about the indiginous wildlife and enviromental issues that are not presently part of the school curriculum.

  • Participate and join the local village families and schools develop conservation projects and help deliver educational programs on local wildlife and enviromental activities.
  • Watch traditional dancers perform their songs.  Visit Kamba wood carvers, local schools and the open air market.
  • Stay in the village or overnite in one of the Nairobi hotels.

"...Preston organized our two week safari excursion and accompanied us from the time we arrived until he dropped us for our departure...we had a much more spacious and comfortable ride in a well stocked 4 wheel drive  with suspension designed for off road.  It was obvious that  Preston was a higher caliber guide regarding  level of service, education and information.  Other guides came to Preston daily for tips and questions about daily safaris...

It was also clear that Preston was very experienced in hosting Americans and understood the standards and expectations in our culture...We always had cool drinks and even beer.  There was an electric powerstrip in our vehicle just incase a video camera or computer needed a charge in route, or just in time to take that great shot we had been waiting for.    I compared our amenities and excursions to other guests and I was glad to be guided and escorted  by Preston.  He understood that it was "our vacation"  and made every effort to accommodate our wishes at any given moment, from pulling over to take a photo, to heading out an hour later than planned so we could relax.  I know that our experience would not have been as wonderful if we had gone with another organization and hope to bring our young daughter on our next safari adventure with Preston."

"[We] had an incredible three week safari with Preston's Birding and Wildlife Safaris in October of 2008...All we had to do was relax and have an incredible time. Preston is without a doubt the best guide in Kenya for those interested in birds as well as all other wildlife. We coined the expression while we were together: 'Preston's Birding & Wildlife Safaris--We never pass a bird!'  The photos and video footage I obtained are wonderful thanks to Preston's ability to get us in the center of action, be it a river-crossing of 6,000 wildebeests and zebras, or a lengthy duet between hooting Verreaux's eagle owls.

Not only is Preston an extremely intelligent and capable safari guide, he is also the most considerate and caring person with a delightful sense of humor and simply a joy to be with. I plan to return for my third safari with Preston in the very near future.  Prestion has also stayed in our home in Moraga twice!"

"I have had the privilege of being on three safaris with Preston.  His knowledge of all that is Kenya is truly the foundation of these safaris.  He has the best ability to find the exact spot to put us for incredible photo opportunities.  I know he is one of the best birders in Kenya, and has made a birder out of this photographer.  His attention to detail leaves his clients the freedom to be in the experience rather than worrying about making the experience happen.  Preston has the most wonderful sense of humor.  When I recall stories he told us, I will have a smile all day.  Preston has become a very special friend and I look forward to many more safaris with him.  I would be happy to speak with anyone who is interested in a safari with him."
